Abstract


TEACHING OF THE “ELEMENTS OF THE SENTENCE” TOPIC THAT IS FOUND IN THE 4TH GRADE “GRAMAR” CIRICULUM OF PRIMARY SCHOOLS WITH THE SUPPORT OF OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
This study is performed for the purpose of teaching the “elements of the sentence” topic that is found in the 4th grade curriculum of primary schools with the support of outdoor activities. The study was carried out with 20 students who were in the 4th grade of primary school in Samsun in 2016-2017 education year. The data were collected from the qualitative research methods by action research and the observation and interview form was used. The activities prepared by the researchers have been applied by establishing interdisciplinary connections with Mathematics, Physical Education and Science lessons in addition to Turkish lessons, after the reception of expert view. During the activities, station, brain storming and discussion were the teaching methods and techniques that was used. Before the activities were applied, they were told and explained to the class teacher and then the activities were done with the participation of the whole class. Activities in the study were organized as outdoor and indoor, respectively. In the outdoor, activities to facilitate students' learning were practiced; and in the implementations made in the classroom, there were activities that will highlight the topic and help to get feedback about whether the subject is learned or not. As a result of the evaluations after the end of the exercises, it was seen that the participants were entertained, learned by amusement, they were physically able to discharge their energy, and were able to actively participate in the process. In addition to these, it has been observed that the peer interaction was strengthened, the motivation and curiosity towards the lesson was increased. Taking into consideration the results obtained, it is considered that learning can be facilitated by applying outdoor activities in other subjects or in other subjects of the Turkish grammar lectures, and it is thought that the student can be motivated more by being provided with curiosity about the next step. Therefore, we think that this study is important in terms of providing a new point of view to the field, diversifying the teaching effectiveness, bringing the teaching activity out of the classroom environment and contributing to the field.
