Abstract


An Investigation of Emotion Regulation of Children Aged 5-6
This study aims to investigate the relations between emotion regulation of children ages 5 and 6 and the variables of sex, order of birth, number of siblings, family type, mother age, mother marriage age, mother education level and mother working status and in this context, it aims to reveal the mother's influence in support of the child's emotional regulation skills. The study group consists of 551 children aged 5 and 6 attending early childhood education institution in Avcılar, Beylikdüzü and Küçükçekmece districts in Istanbul and the mothers of these children. The "Personal Information Form" was used to obtain the demographic information of the children and their mothers and the "Emotion Regulation Scale" developed by Shields and Cicchetti (1997) and adapted to Turkish by Yağmurlu and Altan (2010). According to the result, emotion regulation of children differs based on the gender of the child, the number of siblings, family type, mother's age, mother's marriage age and mother's education level whereas it does not show any difference based on the age of the child, the birth order, and the mother's working status.
