Abstract


THE APPROACH TO UNDESIRABLE STUDENT BEHAVIORS IN CLASSICAL ISLAMIC EDUCATION
The purpose of this qualitative study based on document analysis is to reveal out the approaches to undesirable student behaviors in classical Islamic education. The study includes 12 works of 11 authors from the early period up to the Ottoman stagnation period in which the Islamic thought had just become efficient and productive. The study is carried out on the basis of primary sources by considering the chronological order. The results obtained from the research are limited to the works included in the sample group. In classical Islamic education, the undesirable student behaviors are advised to be ignored at first. Afterwards, it is necessary to imply the misbehavior, make a private conservation, indicate the misbehavior and to explicitly talk about it in the classroom environment, respectively. For the circumstances where none of the warnings produce any result, the authors of the early period offered the option for limited beating, the authors of the further periods did not mention of this approach in their works; on the contrary, they expressly stated the obvious negativities of violence in education.
