Abstract


USE ORAL HISTORY METHOD IN TEACHING SOCIAL STUDIES: A QUALITY STUDY
Abstract The main purpose of the study is to evaluate the teachers' opinions who are practitioners of social studies curriculum on oral history method. Research was carried out within the framework of phenomenological of qualitative research methods. The research study group was conducted with the participation of 10 Social Studies and 10 classroom teachers who have been working in city of Rize. Semi-structured interview form with 6 open-ended questions was used in this study as data collection tool. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive and content analysis techniques in accordance with the qualitative method. As a result of the analysis of data, it was determined that the teachers had sufficient knowledge about the oral history method. Teachers have defined the oral history in content, purpose and method categories. They also stated that the application of the oral history method would be beneficial in acquiring knowledge, value and skills to the students.
