Abstract


EFFECTS OF JIGSAW II TECHNIQUE IN ACTIVE LEARNING ON ACADEMICALLY ACHIEVEMENTS AND LEARNING PERSISTENCE
In this study, a research is made to find out whether using the active learning approach Jigsaw II technique has any effects on the academic success of 4th class primary school students in science lesson or on the retention of learning they have acquired. The study was implemented in a state-run primary school in Bandırma, Balıkesir in of 2016-2017. 60 students participated in the student study group in all, consisting 30 students in the experimental group and 30 students in the control group. The study lasted 9 weeks. The lessons were performed according to the active learning approach in the experimental group and according to lesson plans complying with the traditional teacher-centered approach in the control group. This research has been prepared according to the quasi-experimental design with the pretest-posttest group. As a result, although the arithmetical average of the achievement grades of the experimental group was slightly more than the average of the control group, significant differences were found supporting the experimental group.
