Abstract


How Does Pre-Service Science Teachers Perceive Science and Technology Courses?
The purpose of this study is to reveal pre-service science teacher mental perception about science and technology course, through metaphors. The research was conducted with volunteer pre-service teachers, who were studying in science teaching department of a university, in the fall semester of 2011-2012 academic years. A metaphoric data collection tool was used in the research; it was in the form of “Science and Technology course is like …… Because it is ……”. Participants have created 41 types of metaphors about science and technology course. It has been observed that the most frequently metaphors used by the participants were “life” (f: 24), “making science” (f: 6) and “water” (f: 5). Metaphors have been analyzed considering the reasoning behind them and they were clustered under twelve categories. As a result, the metaphors and related categories created by pre-service teachers revealed that participants have usually a positive perception about the course.
