Abstract


EVALUATION OF THE PROBLEMS FACED BY TEACHERS AND STUDENTS IN SCIENCE AND ART CENTERS
ABSTRACT Science and Art Centers are the places in which students who have IQ score above 130 and high level of performance in leadership, intelligence capacity, creativity, art or specific academic areas than their peers are educated outside the school time. Although there are many difficulties faced by teachers and students in these centers. The researches on problems existed in these centers are very limited. Therefore, the purpose of this research is the evaluation of problems faced by teachers and students in science and arts centers. The method used in this research is semi-structured interview which is one of the qualitative research methods. The study group is composed of 31 teachers and 65 students who took part in in the National Children's Congress held in the University of Necmettin Erbakan, Ahmet Keleşoğlu Education Faculty in June of 2012 in Konya. According to the findings; the enrichment method used for gifted students’ education is not sufficient to meet their educational needs due to lack of resources and materials, teachers’ anixiety levels working temporarily in this schools are high because of having lack of knowledge and the number of teachers’ appointed to Science and Art Centers was insufficient. According to the students’ views, difficulties in scheduling programme, peer adjustment prblems and physical settings were found to be inadequate.
