Abstract

DEVELOPMENT OF SCIENCE TEACHERS’ SCIENCE PROCESS SKILLS
The project named as “Amazing Science Lessons, Inquisitive Students, and Popular Science” and supported by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) was performed so that science teachers could use hands-on activities through inquiry teaching. In line with this purpose, 15 hands-on activities were carried out by means of inquiry teaching. The project was performed in two phases and totally 59 science teachers from Elazığ, Bingöl, and Tunceli participated. In the study, a worksheet which was in parallel form with worksheets used by Unal (2012) was prepared by researchers and used as data collection instruments. When exploring the worksheets, a prepared rubric was used. The given scores were evaluated as the level of science process skills. At the end of the study, average scores which indicate the level of science process skills were observed to increase as the activities were continued. In conclusion, according to the content analysis of the worksheets, in spite of the decreasing scores observed sometimes, science teachers’ science process skills were observed to be developed as reported in the literature by means of inquiry teaching supported with hands-on science activities.
